Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Conduct a systematic clinical assessment of children with ADHD, gathering information from multiple sources, utilizing standardized rating scales, and considering alternative diagnoses that can mimic ADHD symptoms.
- Determine an evidence-based approach for choosing medication treatment for ADHD, discuss the rationale for medication treatment with families, address common parental concerns about medication, and manage common side effects of medication.
- Apply a systematic approach for treating ADHD in youth with both ADHD and comorbid anxiety, including determining when and how to use non-stimulant medication (i.e. alpha-2 agonists, norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors).
- Develop knowledge and skills to better evaluation and treat children with ADHD, including those with comorbid anxiety.
