Jeffrey Strawn, MD
Dr. Strawn is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist and tenured Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Clinical & Translational Pharmacology at the University of Cincinnati. He is also the Dr. Henry and Amelia Nasrallah Endowed Professor in Psychiatric Neuroscience. He is the Associate Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati and co-directs the NIH-funded Center for Clinical & Translational Science & Training.
Dr. Strawn’s research focuses on tailoring treatments to individual patients. With his collaborators, Dr. Strawn uses pharmacogenetics and pharmacologic approaches to predict treatment response and medication tolerability. His work broadly aims to identify the best treatments for individual patients based on patient-specific characteristics and to characterize the trajectory of improvement. This work has provided a platform for refining treatment targets and identifying treatment response biomarkers in anxiety and related disorders.
With nearly 300 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Strawn’s work has been cited more than 10,000 times—1,200 of those citations in the past year alone. He has also co-authored six textbooks, including the best-selling Prescriber’s Guide for Children and Adolescents.
In his clinical practice, he works with patients across the lifespan with anxiety and related disorders and their families and supervises residents and fellows. He is a distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, has been elected as a member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and has received multiple awards for teaching, mentorship, and research.
