Spring 2024 Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support

The Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS) program will introduce principles important in the initial care of critically ill or injured pediatric patients to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers who are not skilled in pediatric critical care but who must care for such a patient in anticipation of the arrival of a pediatric intensivist or pending transfer of the patient to a more suitable facility. The program provides exposure in both didactic and hands-on clinical skills, teaching skills in a small group format as well as using simulation to teach skills.

Target Audience

Physicians such as Hospitalists, Emergency Physicians, and others who care for acutely ill children; APRN's and PA's caring for children in inpatient and outpatient settings; Nurses; Respiratory Therapists

Physician fee: $350
All others: $250

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity participants will be able to:

  • Prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill or injured infant or child
  • Select appropriate diagnostic tests
  • Identify and respond to significant changes in the unstable pediatric patient
  • Recognize and initiate management of acute life-threatening conditions
  • Determine the need for expert consultation and/or patient transfer and optimally stabilize the patient for transport
