Pediatric Trauma: A Cutting-Edge Skills and Simulation Symposium Thursday, May 14, 2026
This is an intensive one-day course designed for clinicians who would like more experience with managing pediatric trauma patients. We will provide hands-on training in critical pediatric trauma assessment and procedure skills. This will include pediatric specific airway management and pediatric trauma resuscitation procedures. Participants will also experience interactive sessions that focus on injury prevention techniques, pediatric burn management, use of ultrasound in pediatric trauma, and pediatric disaster triage. This course will culminate in a friendly Simulation Showdown competition that focuses on the crisis resource management skills needed to successfully manage a critically ill pediatric trauma patient. This course is designed for physicians, nurses, and pre-hospital providers.

- Discuss the initial and ongoing assessment of the pediatric trauma patient including system specific interventions
- Determine priorities of care for the pediatric trauma patient
- List unique features of the pediatric airway
- Review initial management of pediatric burn patients
- Explore tactics to promote pediatric injury prevention
- Review pediatric disaster triage algorithms and disaster training principles
- Review fundamentals of point of care ultrasound for pediatric trauma patients
- Use appropriate medications in pediatric trauma resuscitation
- Discuss the newest recommendations for pediatric advanced trauma life support
- Work effectively as a member and a leader of a healthcare team

During the Simulation Showdown, 4 interdisciplinary teams will compete against each other in simulated pediatric trauma scenarios. An expert panel will review each team’s performance focusing on teamwork, communication, clinical decision making and skills. Interactive audience participation will help determine the Showdown champions. This program will be held in the third floor Lecture Hall and the Nemours Children's Institute for Clinical Excellence Simulation Center at Nemours Children's Hospital, located at 1600 Rockland Rd. in Wilmington, Delaware.
