NAHN Lecture | 'A Day in the Life' of a Hispanic Family
The NAHN Central Florida Monthly Education Series is designed to advance the professional development of Hispanic nurses while addressing critical healthcare gaps impacting our community. Through one-hour, interactive sessions led by subject matter experts, participants will explore evidence-based strategies, culturally responsive care models, and emerging trends in nursing practice. This session explores how social determinants of health (SDOH) shape the lived experiences, care access, and health outcomes of Hispanic individuals and families.
Participants will examine the ways structural factors such as economic stability, education, immigration‑related barriers, language access, and neighborhood conditions create obstacles to timely, equitable care. The session will also highlight how cultural values, communication preferences, and levels of trust influence health‑seeking behaviors and shared decision‑making within Hispanic communities.
Through an applied simulation experience, nurses will have the opportunity to analyze real‑world scenarios, reflect on implicit assumptions, and practice culturally responsive communication. Learners will leave with practical insights and strategies to integrate into their daily nursing practice, promoting more inclusive engagement, stronger therapeutic relationships, and improved health outcomes for Hispanic patients and families.
Target Audience
