ACEs and PCEs in the Primary Care Setting
In primary care, ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) are traumatic events (abuse, neglect, household dysfunction) linked to adult illness, prompting screening and trauma-informed care, while PCEs (Positive Childhood Experiences) are supportive interactions (safe environments, supportive relationships) that buffer ACEs' effects, improving health outcomes like mental well-being, emphasizing that a focus on both ACEs and PCEs helps providers offer holistic, resilience-building care to prevent long-term health issues.
