Tami Benton, MD

Tami Benton MD, is the Fredrick Allen Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, She is the Psychiatrist -in -Chief and Chair of Psychiatry at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Chief of the Division of Child Psychiatry at The University of Pennsylvania. She is the site director for the Lifespan Brain Institute-a multidisciplinary neurosciences research program focused upon mental illness across the lifespan at CHOP and PENN and past member of the National Institute of Mental Health Advisory Council. She is the current President of The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Immediate Past President of the American Association of Directors for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She educates and mentors clinical and research physicians, fellows and post-doctoral trainees, many of whom have are minoritized scholars, who have become academic faculty members. She is trained in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. She has received funding from the NIH, HRSA, PCORI and foundations. She is the Director of the Child and Adolescent Mood Program and the Center for Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Research at CHOP. Her research and clinical proctice is focused onthe diagnosis and management of mood disorders and suiciide among children and adolescent populations and the interface between physical and mental health. Professionally, her work focuses upon developing the next generation of mental health care leaders. and creating partnerships between communities and academic centers to expand access to evidence. based care.
