Monica Barreto, PhD

Monica Barreto, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and the Clinical Director of Behavioral Health at Nemours Children's Health in Central Florida. She completed her residency and fellowship training in pediatric psychology at the Yale Child Study Center, Yale University. Dr. Barreto specializes in supporting children and families from underserved cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
With her expertise in developing brief interventions and programs within medical settings, she is dedicated to increasing access to mental health care and reducing barriers for children and families. In her clinical role, Dr. Barreto provides psychological care and assessments for pediatric patients who face cognitive or behavioral challenges related to chronic illnesses. She also works with children and adolescents in integrated primary care settings, addressing emotional and behavioral concerns such as anxiety, depression, distress, and sleep difficulties.
Dr. Barreto is actively engaged in the Central Florida community, collaborating with universities, schools, and aftercare programs to raise awareness about the psychological needs of youth and reduce stigma. Her initiatives include creating training opportunities for graduate students in partnership with local universities and providing mental health trainees with hands-on experience in primary care settings across various disciplines. Additionally, Dr. Barreto is a member of the American Psychological Association's Committee on Children, Youth, and Families.
