Rajendra Sawh-Martinez, MD, MHS, FACS
Dr. Raj Sawh-Martinez, MD, MHS is an Assistant Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UCF College of Medicine. He serves as the Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at AdventHealth for Children, with prior faculty appointments at Nemours Children’s Hospital and Orlando Health, in addition to running his private practice – RSM Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Sawh-Martinez earned his medical degree and was awarded an NIH research fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. He then completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital. He subsequently became the inaugural Craniofacial Surgery Fellow with a faculty appointment as a clinical instructor at the Yale School of Medcine.
In college, he began an alumni-mentoring program for his High School Alma Mater. During his time in medical school he served as local and national leader of the Latino Medical Student Association (NBLHO), partnering with his SNMA colleagues developing local and national programs geared at improving diversity pipelines. While in residency, he also led and helped develop the Yale New Haven Minority Housestaff Organization. He currently serves on the UCF COM Admissions committee, the Dean’s Advising Academy, and is a active FIRE Research Mentor.
Dr. Sawh-Martinez has conducted research on key clinical issues in plastic surgery and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He has also written a number of textbook chapters and shared research results and insights with professional audiences at national and international meetings. Dr. Sawh-Martinez ongoing research interests and work include research in Bioprinting Tissue Engineering, Cleft Lip and Palate, Craniosynostosis, 3D imaging and Virtual Surgical Planning through his UCF Research Group.
Dr. Sawh-Martinez is of mixed Colombian-Guyanese heritage, and is a native Spanish speaker. His wife is also a Plastic Surgeon, and they have a six year old son, and three year old daughter. They enjoy family time and weekends together.
