Anthony Piazza, MD

I am currently a professor at Emory University in the division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. My clinical interests are primarily related to tertiary care of the surgical neonates and the ongoing education of care providers and the training of residents and fellows. I have published several peer-reviewed publications on necrotizing enterocolitis, immunizations and mucus fistula refeeding. I transitioned from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital NICU medical director after 10 years of service to Quality Improvement (QI) Director for the division in 2022. I have actively mentored several fellows and residents clinically throughout my 27-year tenure at Emory. I have been an active member of several educational committees for the residency and fellowship programs. Nationally have matriculated into a position of national recognition for the work I contributed to within Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium (CHCN) QI collaboratives. As one of the founding sites for the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium and its data base, I am part of the executive leadership for the organization leading its mission and future growth. The database’s purpose is to gather information and best practices as well as outcome data on rare disease specific from Children’s Hospital Tertiary NICUs. I have a lot of interest in quality initiatives which I head a subgroup in the database group on several projects including CLABSI reduction, improved peri-operative care, and improving rates of breast feeding. One of the top missions of CHCN is promote and support trainees in their pursuit of academic and clinical achievements.
