Sean Hughes, Bachelor of Science

My name is Sean Hughes, and I am a researcher in the BRITE lab working on blood-wetted microfluidic oxygenators. I received my BS in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 2023, primarily focusing on medical device R&D, fluid dynamics, and simulation tools. During my degree, I completed an internship as an R&D engineer at a surgical robotics startup, Neocis, helping design the world's first dental surgery robot. After graduating, I joined DePuy Synthes, a Johnson & Johnson company, as a biomedical simulation engineer using computational tools to design better orthopedic implants and surgical tools. In the future, I hope to pursue an MD-PhD focusing on computational biology, microfluidics, and translational medicine, just as I do here at Nemours.
