Kathryn Shady, PhD, RN, OCN
Dr. Shady is a second career nurse with 10 years of experience in inpatient hematology/oncology. She graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with a PhD in nursing research in 2023. She has previously led research exploring the perceptions of in-hospital provider's when caring for adults with communication difficulties secondary to IDD/ASD, use of the ipsilateral arm in breast cancer patients, mitigating burnout in inpatient nurses, acceptability of the use of lavender aromatherapy patches in hematology/oncology patients, and compassion fatigue in trauma/surgical nurses. Her current projects include exploring emotional labor and emotional dissonance in oncology nurses, development of a disability support structure, and capturing the experience of siblings of children with severe developmental delays. Kate is a strong supporter of clinical nurse involvement in research, quality improvement, and other projects in attempts to ensure the biggest issues being faced on the front lines are the ones addressed. She mainly focuses on mixed methods and implementation research and enjoys being innovative and mentoring others.
