Pediatric Emergency Medicine Skills Course for 1st Year PEM Fellows - July 27 & 28, 2026

This course, designed for first year Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellows, is an intensive 2-day course that will provide hands-on training in critical Pediatric Emergency Medicine procedure skills. This will include airway management techniques, vascular access and resuscitation procedures. Using high fidelity simulation, this course will also focus on the development of communication, teamwork and crisis resource management skills.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify subtle as well as classic radiographic findings in acute pediatric presentations
  • Use appropriate adjuncts to secure a pediatric airway 
  • Describe techniques to obtain vascular access in neonatal and pediatric patients
  • Describe the management of neonatal emergencies 
  • Identify indicators of illness and injury in the pediatric patient 
  • Discuss the newest recommendations for advanced life support in pediatric patients
  • Manage complex children in the Emergency Department
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, other health care professionals, patients and families 
  • Develop communication skills necessary to engage in difficult decisions with patients and families
