NCHFL RN Residency Program | Cohort 21

The RN Residency Program at Nemours Children’s Health, Central Florida (NCHFL) is a comprehensive, year‑long professional development experience designed to support newly licensed pediatric nurses as they transition into clinical practice. Rooted in the principles of structural empowerment and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice, the program integrates active learning, reflective practice, simulation, and evidence‑based inquiry to foster confidence, competence, and professional identity in the emerging pediatric nurse.

Throughout the residency year, nurse residents engage in a progressive curriculum that blends foundational skills with advanced clinical judgment, interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural competency, and leadership development. The RN Residency Program ultimately prepares new graduate nurses to thrive within Nemours Children’s Health, fostering the next generation of skilled, compassionate, and resilient pediatric professionals.

Target Audience

Entry-level pediatric new graduate registered nurses.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, nurse residents will be able to:

  1. Apply Tanner’s Model of Clinical Judgment, Noticing, Interpreting, Responding, and Reflecting, to pediatric clinical situations in order to deliver safe, developmentally appropriate, evidence‑based care aligned with ANA Standards of Practice.
  2. Demonstrate progressive professional identity and structural empowerment by engaging in active learning, mentorship, and reflective practice that supports the transition from academia to professional pediatric nursing.
  3. Integrate core pediatric competencies into clinical decision‑making by participating in simulations, interdisciplinary collaboration, and guided skills practice to ensure high‑quality, family‑centered care across all body systems.
