NCHF So You Want to Become a Preceptor? November | 2024

Preceptors are necessary to the onboarding of clinicians to the work environment and are specialists in their field of practice.  The purpose of the Preceptor Program is empower clinical staff at NCH with the tools to build newly hired associates, residents, and students to foster their development in their clinical practice areas.  This program will focus on the development of role responsibility, unit expectations, NCH policy and procedures, and organizational culture through both didactic and interactive teaching principles.

Target Audience

This course is appropriate for a clinicians who precept at Nemours Children's Hospital, Orlando.

RN, RT, EMT-P, MA, PCT, SST

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to: 

  • to describe the roles and responsibilities of a preceptor. Apply evidence and best practice for topic presented each session.
  • demonstrate best practices and communications skills with a preceptee, staff, patients.
  • demonstrate understanding of critical thinking skills as supported by current protocols, evidence-based research, and best practices.
  • provide constructive feedback and evaluation to the preceptee.
  • develop and implement a learning plan with a preceptee based on their needs and goals.
