Fetal Cardiology CME: Right-sided Lesions, Ebstein's Anomaly and Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia

Failed diagnosis of fetal cardiac abnormalities impact postnatal outcomes, infant morbidity and mortality. There is limited training within Obstetric, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine programs focused on pediatric cardiology and the rates of prenatal detection of Congenital Heart Disease have improved over the last decade but there are still missed diagnoses.

Participants will gain aware of national and expert consensus, guidelines and literature as it applies to early detection and management of fetal cardiac and hemodynamic abnormalities and be able to develop a plan to incorporate new skill sets into imaging and assessment of fetal cardiology abnormalities. Providers will have improved comfort counseling pregnant patients carrying a fetus with congenital heart disease.

All members of the perinatal team will be able to develop a shared mental model that helps identify patients at risk of congenital heart disease and identify via ultrasound fetuses with concern for congenital heart disease. All members will feel comfortable discussing images and differential diagnosis.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity participants will be able to:

  • Identify fetuses with right-sided heart lesions and provide a differential diagnosis.
  • Discuss the ongoing surveillance of fetuses with right-sided congenital heart disease.
  • List and identify associated lesions with right-sided congenital heart disease.
