Egidius Waterval, PhD, RN, NE-BC
Dr. Eugene Waterval has more than 35 years of experience in critical care nursing, and education, of which more than 14 years of experience as a Magnet Program Director at a system and hospital level. He successfully led two designations for two specialty hospitals and one initial designation for a Level One Trauma Center. He developed and taught an online Nursing Leadership Development Program, and other Magnet®-related workshops, and created an electronic nursing peer review process, and a nursing practice review process. Through his international contacts as a Magnet Program Director, he advised organizations from the Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Malaysia regarding professional governance and Magnet®. He has published articles about simulation and teamwork, peer review, nursing leadership development related to Magnet® principles, and simulation-based annual competency review, and several nursing research manuscripts are in review for publication. His research focuses on nursing workload, nurse decision-making in titrating vasoactive medications, preceptor development, and teamwork. He is a member of the American Nurses Association, Florida Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and he is currently the co-chair for the mentorship program for the University of Central Florida Alumni Association. His PhD in Nursing is from the University of Central Florida.
