Stephen Dunn, MD
I am a senior surgeon with a primary focus on liver and kidney transplant surgery in children. I began this career in 1986 while in my training to become a pediatric surgeon. Since that time I have completed approximately 450 pediatric liver transplants and approximately 300 pediatric kidney transplants. I am the current Chief of Solid Organ Transplant at Nemours Hospital for Children Delaware. I have been a faculty member of Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine since approximately 2003 where I hold the position of Professor of Surgery. I have many academic and research interest. These include technical variant grafts for liver transplant. Liver transplantation for all indications in children and most recently for unresectable hepatoblastoma. We have established clinical protocols which successfully support children with acute hepatic failure. We have implemented important techniques and treatments for babies and small children with kidney failure. We established a research basis using real time PCR to diagnose viral infections in pediatric transplant recipients. We started international transplant programs in India, Bolivia and Jamaica.
