I am a primary care pediatrician and health services researcher focused on risk identification, care coordination, and connection to community-based services for high-risk mother-newborn dyads. Over the past 15 years as a general pediatrician, I have cultivated a specific interest in newborn care and early infancy, with extensive clinical experience caring for high-risk mothers and their newborns, particularly those affected by maternal opioid use disorder. I have received federal funding for my research through multiple mechanisms, including a BIRCWH K12 award, an R40 from HRSA/Maternal Child Health Bureau, and most recently an AHRQ R18 to implement and evaluate a group well child care intervention for mothers in treatment for opioid use disorder at Thomas Jefferson University. I have the requisite experience and skills to serve as co-PI on the current project, which seeks to develop a novel approach to newborn care which integrates maternal blood pressure screening to address hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and which focuses more holistically on the healthcare and social needs of the mother-infant dyad. Given known racial and socioeconomic disparities in cardiovascular disease among pregnant women, and key gaps in their postpartum care, this research is timely and addresses a critical public health issue.
