Kate Shady, PhD, RN, OCN
Kate Shady is a Clinical Nurse, Level 4, in inpatient hematology/oncology at ChristianaCare, where she brings extensive expertise in inpatient hematology/oncology nursing. She holds a BA and BSN from the University of Delaware and a PhD from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Kate has been recognized for her innovative contributions to nursing, winning the ChristianaCare 2024 Innovation Challenge, earning a slot as a 2023 Nursing Hack4Health finalist, and being nominated for the Magnet Nurse of the Year award in 2023. She is currently leading federally funded research on mitigating nurse burnout and plays a key role in ChristianaCare's Nursing Research Fellowship in Robotics and Innovation. Additionally, Dr. Shady acted as a mentor for the inaugural class of the Evidence-Based Practice Fellowship, both in 2019 and in 2023.
With specialized training in bone marrow transplants and chemotherapy administration as well as nursing science, Dr. Shady is a clinical expert and dedicated preceptor and mentor. Her research interests focus on improving inpatient care for adults with developmental disabilities, particularly those who are nonspeaking, and addressing barriers faced by clinical nurses in acute care settings. Kate is also passionate about mentoring novice and research-naive nurses, fostering a culture of evidence-based practice, continuous learning, and spirit of inquiry and innovation.
