Samir Shah, MD, MBA, FRCPC
Dr. Samir Shah is a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC) / Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee where he serves as the Le Bonheur Chair of Excellence. He is the Division Chief of Pediatric Critical Care, Medical Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Unit, and Associate Medical Director of the Extracorporeal Membrane Therapies program. He served as the Fellowship Program Director for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at UTHSC.
Earlier, Dr. Shah completed his medical education at the Seth G S Medical College in Mumbai, India where he further trained as a surgeon at King Edward Memorial Hospital and as a Pediatric Surgeon at Grant Medical College / JJ Group of Hospitals. He trained as a Pediatric Intensivist at UCLA School of Medicine and as a Cardiac Intensivist at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles / Keck School of Medicine. He has additional training in the Application of AI in Medicine from MIT and is a Certified Instructor in Simulation Medicine (Harvard School of Medicine).
Dr. Shah’s research interest is focused on the application of Clinical Decision Support tools and Artificial Intelligence for earlier recognition and management of severe sepsis. He is also interested in improving neurological outcomes in ECMO patients and minimizing the need for E-CPR. His team’s efforts have awarded the institution with the ELSO Gold category for their QI initiatives. Dr. Shah is published in high-impact journals, and he has been an invited speaker at national and international meetings.
