Jehier Afifi, MBBCh MSc SQIL-Harvard
Dr Jehier Afifi is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and Neonatologist at IWK Health and Nova Scotia Provincial Perinatal Follow Up Program. Her research area focuses on quality improvement, brain imaging and neurodevelopmental outcomes of high-risk infants but extends to involve clinical interventions and family integrated care. Her clinical research is interdisciplinary, collaborating with families, perinatology, neuroradiology, neurosurgery and pediatric developmental services and geared both to contribute to the academic literature and to improve outcomes of newborn infants.
Dr Afifi graduated from Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University Cairo Egypt, where she had her pediatrics and neonatal training. She completed fellowship training in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine at University of Manitoba. She is certified in Safety Quality Informatics and Leadership from Harvard Medical School, and she obtained MSc in Community Health & Epidemiology from Dalhousie University.
Dr Afifi holds leadership roles in safety & quality locally, nationally, and internationally. Locally, she is the Site Investigator for the Canadian Neonatal Network (CNN) the Canandian Neonatal Follow Up Network (CNFUN) and the Canadian Preterm Birth Network (CPTBN). She is the Madeline Scholar for Safety & Quality (2019-2021) at IWK, the Chair of the Neonatal Quality Safety Committee at IWK and member of QIPS at Postgraduate Medical Education at Dalhousie University. Nationally, she is the Chair of the Canadian Evidence-based Practice to Improve Quality (EPIQ) Education Program Steering Committee, Co-Director of CNFUN and CPTBN Steering Committee. Internationally, she is member of Executive Committee POCUS-NEO, being Co-Chair of the Neonatal Neurocritical Care e-Conference, and member of QI & Research Committee of Newborn Brain Society.
