Keira Sorrells, Founder & Executive Director, NICU Parent Network
Since 2010, as Founder and Executive Director of the NICU Parent Network (NPN), Keira Sorrells has worked to elevate the NICU Parent Leader as a professional in maternal infant health. After giving birth to triplets at just 25 weeks 5 days gestation and losing one of her daughters at 14 months old, Keira has remained committed to ensuring no parent experiences the trauma of a NICU stay or loss alone. Together, with a dedicated team of NICU Parent Leaders, Keira has grown NPN, a mission-based professional organization for NICU Parent Leaders who collectively represent the needs and best interests of NICU families across the US, to over 40 support organization members across 28 states and 3 countries. NPN continues to be a sought-after resource and collaborative partner for providers, researchers, industry, and other stakeholders in this niche of healthcare.
Parents are and always will be the key informants in maternal infant health. Nowhere else in healthcare is this more important than in matters related to neonates, a patient population that cannot speak for itself. Keira is passionate about uplifting and strengthening the NICU Parent Leader community so that every aspect of maternal infant health will be improved through informing product development, research protocols, standards of care, family support, and educating communities and healthcare partners resulting in families who thrive. Ms. Sorrells’ commitment to authentic leadership and collaboration has successfully established a unified representation for NICU parents everywhere.
Ms. Sorrells serves in leadership and advisory roles with the International Neonatal Consortium, National Coalition for Infant Health, and European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants, and is the Family Partner Co-Chair of the FCC Taskforce. Ms. Sorrells has brought these commitments to collaboration and authenticity with her. She strongly believes that the principles of being Family-Centered should not be restricted to bedside care but should be incorporated through every level of healthcare from administration through clinical practice and beyond.
