Kristyn Beam, MD MPH
I am a board-certified neonatologists at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston Children's Hospital. I completed my fellowship from the Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Combined Fellowship based at Boston Children’s Hospital as well as a Masters of Public Health with a focus in Quantitative Methods at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. I am an innovative clinician in the area of Neonatology focusing on the development of prediction models with deep learning techniques in order to predict neonatal outcomes at an earlier time point to intervene and potentially change and improve the outcome. My interest in this area of artificial intelligence and machine learning developed during fellowship as I saw the ways in which the neonatal intensive care unit could use these innovative methods. My work has focused on examining radiographs and utilizing deep learning to predict neonatal outcomes in the first few days of an infant’s life. I believe that with new collaborations between clinicians and machine learning experts we will be able to utilize the vast amounts of clinical information as well as radiographic imaging collected on a daily basis in the neonatal intensive care unit to improve neonatal outcomes by developing new prediction models.
