Rick Guidotti, Founder, Director, Photographer: Positive Exposure
Rick Guidotti, an award-winning photographer, worked in NYC, Milan, Paris and London for a variety of high profile clients including Yves St Laurent, Revlon and L’Oreal. His work has been published in newspapers, magazines and journals as diverse as GQ, Elle, People, the American Journal of Medical Genetics, The Lancet, Spirituality and Health, New York Times, Washington Post, Atlantic Monthly and LIFE Magazine.
Rick has spent more than twenty-five years collaborating internationally with non-profit organizations, hospitals, medical schools, educational institutions, museums, galleries, advocacy groups and communities to effect a sea-change in societal attitudes towards individuals living with genetic, physical, behavioral or intellectual difference.
Rick is the founder and director of POSITIVE EXPOSURE, a non-profit organization that promotes a more inclusive, equitable and compassionate world for individuals and communities at risk of stigma and exclusion through photography, film, community storytelling, education, and advocacy.
In June 1998, Guidotti’s work was featured in LIFE Magazine’s cover story entitled, Redefining Beauty. In collaboration with the Genetic Alliance and the National Human Genome Research Institute, Rick premiered a photographic exhibition for the People’s Genome Celebration at the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History in 2001. Since then, he has continued to develop exhibitions, lectures, workshops, educational programs, and initiatives around the globe.
Rick and his team produce a film series called FRAME (Faces Redefining the Art of Medical Education). FRAME serves as a web-based educational library featuring short films that offer a broader, more humanized understanding of medical conditions and critical topics.
In 2019, POSITIVE EXPOSURE opened a multi-media gallery and performance space on New York City’s Museum Mile in East Harlem that embraces the beauty of human diversity and serves as a central hub for showcasing the work of visual, performing, literary and multi-sensory artists as well as providing educational, cultural, and artist-in-residency programming.
