Megan Brunson, PhD, RN, CCRN-CSC, CNL, FCCM
Megan E. Brunson, PhD, RN, CNL, CCRN-CSC, FCCM is a nationally recognized critical care nurse leader, scholar, and advocate for night shift nurses. With more than two decades of experience working predominantly on night shift in high-acuity cardiovascular and critical care environments, Dr. Brunson’s clinical and leadership career has been deeply shaped by the realities, challenges, and strengths of nocturnal nursing practice. Her extensive background includes roles as a CVICU staff nurse, rapid response nurse, and house supervisor providing her with a comprehensive understanding of how night shift conditions impact patient outcomes, nurse well-being, and organizational performance. Dr. Brunson’s PhD dissertation, Quantitative Analysis of Hardiness Within Night Shift Nurses: A Survey-Based Study, focused on examining resilience, adaptability, and psychological hardiness among nurses who work overnight. Her scholarly work highlights the often-overlooked complexity of night shift nursing and provides evidence to inform leadership strategies, staffing models, and supportive interventions tailored specifically to nocturnal clinicians. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Brunson is a frequent national and international speaker on night shift nursing, healthy work environments, resilience, innovation, and leadership. Dr. Brunson continues to elevate the voice, visibility, and value of nurses in a variety of ways and currently serves as faculty for CSI (Clinical Scene Investigator Academy).
