Josephine Stout, MD

Dr. Josephine Stout is a pediatric cardiac intensivist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College. She earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine and completed a pediatric residency and chief residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She then completed her pediatric critical care fellowship training at the University of Mississippi and her advanced cardiac critical care fellowship at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
Dr Stout is passionate about medical education and training the next generation of intensivists and serves as Associate Program Director for the pediatric critical care medicine fellowship program and is involved in education and mentorship throughout the cardiac center and beyond. She also has academic interests in cardiac arrest prevention, education, and palliative care in the cardiac ICU. She is an active researcher, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and contributions to medical textbooks. Her work has been presented at national and international conferences, focusing on diverse topics such as pediatric diabetes, cardiac arrest and thromboembolism in congenital heart disease, and critical care protocols.
Dr. Stout is also committed to service and outreach and is involved with a variety of both national and international medical missions and disaster relief. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society.
