Heather Joseph, DO

Heather Joseph is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Joseph graduated from The Ohio State University with degrees in Biology and Psychology. She completed medical school at Ohio University Osteopathic College of Medicine. Dr. Joseph subsequently completed the general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship in the Psychiatry Research Pathway at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She has since developed a line of research examining early markers (behavioral, cognitive, and neural) of risk for childhood ADHD from birth to 5 years, the impact of parental ADHD on families, and interventions to improve outcomes for individuals with ADHD. Her research has been highly innovative in the use of novel methods such as neonatal neurobehavioral assessments, infant cognitive tasks, and functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) to identify signals of inattention from the neonatal to preschool periods. Her clinical expertise is in consultation liaison child psychiatry and perinatal mental health. Leveraging her research and clinical expertise, she is leading clinical trials embedded in pediatric and obstetrical care settings. Her research is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation Fellowship in ADHD, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the YourMomCares Foundation, and the Brain Behavior Research Foundation.
