Julie Lynn Fitzgerald, MD, FAAP, joined Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida in April 2026 as division chief of pediatric critical care and transport medicine. Dr. Fitzgerald earned her undergraduate degree from Villanova University and her Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. She then completed a combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency, followed by a pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Dr. Fitzgerald is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP). Dual-board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine, she cares for critically ill and injured infants and children with particular expertise in sepsis, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, ventilator management, and complex respiratory support. Prior to Nemours Children’s, Dr. Fitzgerald served as division director of pediatric critical care medicine and interim chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. While there she designed innovative programs that improved how trainees learn, including a specialty-specific online curriculum that residents could work though at their own pace.  Throughout her career, Dr. Fitzgerald has held numerous clinical and community leadership roles, and she is committed to advancing pediatric care through research and developing the next generation of pediatric intensivists. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Fitzgerald is a passionate advocate for organ and tissue donation, currently serving as the Chair of the Board of Director of Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network.IN that role she has strengthened connections between organ procurement organizations and intensive care teams, helping more families understand the profound gift of donation.
