Daniel Atkins, J.D.
Dan has served as the Executive Director of Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. (“CLASI”), Delaware’s largest and oldest civil legal services provider, since July 2015, where he oversees a staff of over 80 and a budget of over $14,000,000. Dan has been an attorney at CLASI since his graduation from law school in 1990. CLASI has been named a Top Workplace in Delaware nine out of the last eleven years and has been the highest rated non-profit with fewer than 100 employees twice.
Dan is an adjunct professor at Widener University Delaware Law School where he has co-taught classes in poverty law, disability law, law and inequality, and medical-legal partnerships.
In 2015, Dan was honored by the ACLU-Delaware with the Gerald E. Kandler award for outstanding leadership in the cause of civil liberties. In 2016, he received the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnerships Distinguished Advocate award for his contribution to the research, policies, scaling and education that support the advancement of the Medical-Legal Partnership movement nationally. In 2023 the News Journal named Dan one of Delaware's Most Influential Lawyers.
Dan has co-authored articles in newspapers, law reviews, and public health journals relating to poverty, inequality, and leadership.
