Osman Altun, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.P., is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Nemours Children’s Health, specializing in pediatric gastroenterology with special interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Dr. Altun is a prominent advocate for multidisciplinary, patient-centered care, believing that the most successful outcomes for children and families are achieved through the seamless integration of gastroenterology, surgery, radiology, nutrition, and psychological support.
Clinical Leadership & Professional Background
Prior to joining Nemours, Dr. Altun served as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Alabama and USA Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital. During his tenure, he held dual leadership roles as the Medical Director of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Medical Director of Pediatric Subspecialties. His leadership philosophy is rooted in:

Dr. Altun’s clinical expertise is backed by a rigorous academic foundation. He completed his pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine/Yale New Haven Hospital and earned his Ph.D. in infectious disease and clinical microbiology from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.
His current research and academic interests include:
