Timothy Carroll, MD, FAAP

Timothy Carroll, MD, FAAP, is the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Inpatient Services at Nemours Children’s Health, Northwest Florida, based at Ascension Sacred Heart Studer Family Children’s Hospital, a role he has held since January 2025. He also serves as Medical Director of the Pediatric Sedation Unit, which he designed and leads as the only dedicated pediatric sedation service of its kind serving the entire Gulf Coast region. In these roles, Dr. Carroll provides leadership and oversight of inpatient medical operations, partnering with clinical and nonclinical teams to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and patient- and family-centered care. He also plays a key role in advancing Nemours Children’s Health strategic growth across the Florida panhandle and in strengthening partnerships with hospital collaborators in the Pensacola area.
Dr. Carroll joined Nemours in October 2022 as a Pediatric Intensivist and was rapidly promoted to Department Chair and Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in January 2023. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas and completed his pediatric residency and pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern. He holds academic appointments as associate professor of pediatrics at Florida State University and has been actively engaged in academic pediatrics and medical education throughout his career. With over 15 years of experience across diverse inpatient and tertiary/quaternary PICU settings, he is an award-winning clinician, researcher, and educator whose committee leadership has driven multiple quality-improvement initiatives and better patient outcomes. He is winner of the Nemours Children’s Health Excellence Award in both Clinical Care and Quality.
Board certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care, Dr. Carroll has particular interests in hospital safety, reliability, and quality improvement. He is a Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support instructor with the American Heart Association. He is completing the Nemours Certified Physician Manager – LEADER program, holds a White Belt in Lean Six Sigma, and has a certificate in Patient Safety and Quality from the Armstrong Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Carroll is completing his master’s in business administration with a focus in organizational management from Eastern University. Dr. Carroll is a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a passion for providing excellent patient care.
