Sofia Wicker Velez is a dedicated pediatric Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). She earned her degree from California State University Sacramento and completed her Dietetic Internship at Johns Hopkins. Currently, Sofia works at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and is the dietitian and one of the co-developers of the multidisciplinary GIFT clinic. She has presented at prestigious conferences, including the 15th Advances in Pediatric Nutrition 2024 and the 38th Annual Pediatric for the Practitioner Update 2023 with the GIFT Clinic team.

Sofia’s areas of expertise span a wide range, including nutritional care for patients with gastroenterology diseases, functional abdominal pain, liver transplants, critical care needs, and neurologic conditions requiring the ketogenic diet. She provides care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, prioritizing optimal outcomes for her young patients.

Fluent in both Spanish and English, Sofia is a certified bilingual staff member at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her commitment extends beyond clinical practice; she actively contributes to culturally appropriate research studies, aiming to reduce health disparities.

Sofia is also passionate about education and actively contributes as the pediatric rotation coordinator for the Dietetic Internship Program and the Johns Hopkins University MSPH.
