Charles Cornmesser, BSN, RN, PHRN

Chuck Cornmesser began his healthcare career in pre-hospital medicine, earning EMT-MAST certification at 16 and becoming a licensed paramedic at 18, serving with the City of Pittsburgh. After enlisting in the U.S. Army at 20, he continued to work as a paramedic in the communities surrounding his duty stations and instructed NREMT-B courses overseas for medics assigned to his units.
Today, Chuck serves as a Children’s Critical Care Transport Nurse at UPMC Harrisburg. As an original member of the Children’s Transport Team, he is actively involved in the daily growth and development of the program, helping to shape pediatric and neonatal transport services across central Pennsylvania. With prior experience as a Level IV NICU nurse and more than four years in pediatric critical care, he brings extensive expertise in stabilizing and transporting critically ill infants and children.
Chuck is currently completing his Master of Science in Nursing, Executive Track, at Chamberlain University. His practicum focuses on advancing ethics committee representation for women’s and children’s health services at UPMC, aligning with his passion for family-centered care and reducing moral distress among staff.
Drawing on a unique blend of pre-hospital, military, and hospital-based leadership experience, Chuck is a dedicated clinician, educator, and advocate committed to advancing pediatric and neonatal care through innovation, teamwork, and service.
