Research Experience
07/2018-06/2019
Surgical Scholar Fellow, Dept of Pediatric Surgery, Children’s Mercy, Kansas City, MO Research Mentor: Dr. Tolulope Oyetunji
As clinical research fellow, I designed research projects, obtained IRB approval, and implemented research plans, conducting chart reviews or querying existing databases. I processed large-volume data, performed statistical analysis, and authored abstracts and manuscripts as studies developed. My primary areas of interest were in the standardization of care as well as outcomes research for other topics in pediatric surgery.
07/2014-06/2016
Clinical Research Fellow, Dept of Pediatric Surgery, WCHOB, Buffalo, NY Research Mentor: Dr. Carroll M. Harmon
As clinical research fellow, I designed research projects, obtained IRB approval, and implemented research plans, conducting chart reviews or querying existing databases. I processed large-volume data, performed statistical analysis, and authored abstracts and manuscripts as studies developed. My primary areas of research were in the surgical management of obesity as well as outcomes research for other topics in pediatric surgery.
08/2003 - 11/2005
Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Lab at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA Undergraduate Researcher, Dr. Yadong Wang I optimized and helped to develop the polymerization of biomolecules with synthetic linkers to create functional biomaterials. These featured degradable ester backbones and biomolecular side chains such as amino acids and derivatives, peptides, carbohydrate and derivatives, and lipids. This family of biomaterials could have diversity rivaling a biological system at a cost much lower than synthesized polypeptides. A plated combinatorial array of these materials could be used to select for those polymers that provide biocompatibility and elicit specific responses from cells. My work in organic chemistry and engineering was acknowledged in one of our PhD student’s dissertations, “New materials and scaffold fabrication method for nerve tissue engineering.”
