Monique Gardner, MD, MSCE

Dr. Monique Gardner is a pediatric cardiac intensivist at Nemours Children’s Hospital where she serves as Chief of Critical Care and Co-Director in the Cardiac Center. She earned her BS with Honors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from The Pennsylvania State University, her MD from New York Medical College, and most recently, a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Gardner completed her residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, before completing a fellowship Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Before coming to Nemours, Dr. Gardner served as an attending physician and Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she served as Associate Director of Research in the Advanced Cardiac Therapies Program, and founder and lead of the Cardiac Center Cardiac Arrest Prevention, Education, Resuscitation & Research (CAPER) Group.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gardner is a physician-scientist with a research interest in the novel subphenotyping of inflammation and organ dysfunction in pediatric cardiac arrest, advanced heart failure, and in neonatal cardiopulmonary bypass. She has received several honors for her research, including the American Heart Association Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award, and has received funding from NIH and multiple institutional and foundation grants.
