Thomas F. Kolon, MD is a Professor of Urologic Surgery and the Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Endowed Chair in Pediatric Urology at the University of Pennsylvania Perlman School of Medicine. He is Chief of Urology and recent Pediatric Urology Fellowship Program Director and Secretary of the Medical Staff at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.  Dr. Kolon completed his undergraduate work in Biology at Villanova University (B.S). He attained an M.S. in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University and received his M.D. from Georgetown School of Medicine.

He completed his residency training in General Surgery/Urology at Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut Health Center. His training there included two years of basic and clinical research in the areas of male infertility and prostate cancer. He then completed a two year pediatric urology fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital. His background in molecular biology research has led to extensive publications and presentations, especially in the fields of cryptorchidism, varicocele, germ cell preservation, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and differences of sex development (intersex). Dr. Kolon is Board Certified in Urology and Pediatric Urology.

He is currently the Executive Secretary of Pediatric Urology Advisory Council to the American Board of Urology. He previously served as President of the Society for Fetal Urology, Pediatric Task Force Chair of the AUA/ABU Exam Committee, and Chair of the AUA Cryptorchidism Guidelines Panel, among other distinctions. His current main research focus involves long-term follow-up of patients with varicocele, CAH, and oncologic tumors with specific emphasis on fertility preservation and rehabilitation and organ-sparing oncologic surgery.

Dr. Kolon is a former Commander in the United States Navy Medical Corps, serving from 1985-2001. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Trenton in 2011. He currently serves at Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Moorestown, NJ where he resides with his wife, Karen Earl, M.D., an obstetrician/gynecologist, and raised four children. His community service has included critical support and aid in organizational fundraising for women in crisis pregnancies, adoption and interim care (Options for Women, First Way, Helpers of Infants, Good Counsel Homes, Rachel’s Vineyard), as well as hospice support for the elderly and medical mission support in Jamaica.
