C. Daniel Cabrera is a leader with the Interpreter Services Team at Nemours Children’s Health, in the Patient and Family Services Department at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida. In his role as a Certified Medical Interpreter, he promotes patient safety as he helps LEP, Limited English Proficient families and providers to clearly communicate and collaborates to empower families and patients to speak freely and understand their healthcare plan for healthier outcomes.
C. Daniel has influenced thinking at two hospital locations, Nemours Children’s Hospital Delaware, 8.5 years, and Nemours Children’s Hospital Florida, 5 yrs., by leadership example, and by optimizing educational opportunities while engaging executive leaders, managers, physicians, nurses, associates, technologists, and families/patients in and out of the Nemours organization. Experienced with CLAS Standards (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services) in Federal Regulations of the Office of Minority Health. First-hand system knowledge of Nemours north and south regional business footprint.
C. Daniel provides clinical interpretation to help bridge the communication gaps in over 30 subspecialties with continuous improvement, soft skills, and emotional intelligence. Moving the needle towards a more successful patient experience as a cultural liaison perceiving discernable cultural nuances, accents, styles, or linguistic registers at all points of contact during patient care delivery.
As a subject matter trainer, Dan has collaborated with the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion’s (OHEI) Cultural Competence training as a facilitator in the Delaware Valley. He attended the Quality Champions Program receiving a Certificate in Basic Quality & Safety thru the Institute for Healthcare Improvement where he collaborated in launching a 3-Step Qualification process for the multi-lingual associate/provider language assessment program in Central Florida to provide reliability across the NCH Florida region.
In his capacity as a trainer, he provides training for bilingual associates and providers on the topics of Language Compliance, Interpreter Code of Ethics, Professional Standards of Practice, and Advanced Medical Terminology. Served as a member of the D.R.I.V.E. Task Force initiating changes across the enterprise as well as participating in hospital committees to improve patient care and hospital processes identifying areas of potential improvements.
Prior to his role at Nemours, C. Daniel served in the Administrative Office of the Courts, State of Delaware as a Court Interpreter in the Family Court, Superior Court, Court of Common Pleas of New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties in the State of Delaware.
