Clara Song, MD

Dr. Clara Song, MD is a neonatal intensivist with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG), where she leads the simulation-based training efforts for critical neonatal events and organizes the Permanente Medical Group Grand Rounds in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NPM). Previous to her current position, she was the Director of Education and Director of Advocacy and Innovative Strategies in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NPM) at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and led the Simulation-based Training in Neonatal Resuscitation. Dr. Song is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Her interests focus on digital discussion, simulation-based education and systems improvement.
Dr. Song graduated with a medical degree from Keck School of Medicine at University of Southern California (USC), and completed her pediatric residency at Mattel Children’s Hospital at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) after which she practiced as a pediatrician. She then completed neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship training at the LAC-USC Medical School/Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles at USC. She is board-certified in General Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
Dr. Song is an active volunteer with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (SONPM). She was the inaugural chair of TECaN, the Trainees and Early Career Neonatologists Group of the AAP Section of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (SONPM), past District VII representative on the SONPM Executive Committee 2015-2021, founding chair of the SONPM Central Communication Committee, a founding steering committee member of the SONPM Women In Neonatology group and inaugural co-Chair of the new SONPM All Pathways Group that recognizes and supports all career trajectories in our profession. She is the current Chair of the AAP SONPM Executive Committee.
