Hege is a Professor in Simulation and Global Health, Stavanger University Hospital and University of Stavanger, with a PhD in International Health from the University of Oslo, Norway.  

She is a trained Anaesthesiologist and Leader of the Safer Healthcare Research Group, Stavanger, Norway.

Since 2009, Hege has been the Principal Investigator of several large international research and development projects related to the day of birth and implementation of simulation-based learning to improve quality of care and patient outcomes – both in low- and high resource settings.

In the Safer Births program she has supervised 17 completed PhDs and is currently supervising around 20 PhDs from both low-and high income countries. She has published around 150 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals.
