HyeRan Choo, DDS, DMD, MS

Dr. HyeRan Choo is an expert in treating neonates nonsurgically for their respiratory distress, feeding difficulty, or orofacial deformities. Her research is focused on reducing complexity of orofacial cleft postnatally and promoting upper airway enhancement for better nasal breathing, oral feeding, continuous sleep, and accelerated mandibular growth in infants and children. Dr. Choo completed her undergraduate education and dental surgery training at Seoul National University in South Korea in 2002 and dental medicine training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 2004. She completed her orthodontic residency training and masters in science degree program at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2007. She then completed her craniofacial fellowship at the Clinical Center of National Institutes of Health / National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research in Bethesda in 2008. She joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania / The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2008, as a full-time craniofacial orthodontist. In 2016, she joined the faculty of Stanford University / Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford where she is currently a clinical associate professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and medical director of the Stanford Orthodontic Airway Plate Treatment Program (Stanford OAP). She is the creator of the Stanford OAP and its clinical implementation protocol based on medical imaging and visual treatment objectives for the upper airway. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics since 2008 and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine since 2021. She is also an alumna of the Stanford Biodesign Faculty Fellowship since 2021.
