David Blauvelt, MD

Dr. David Blauvelt, MD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University and an Attending Physician in the pediatric intensive care unit at Nemours Children’s Hospital. He is also an affiliate faculty member at the University of Delaware in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Blauvelt directs the Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Translation in Extracorporeal Life Support (BRITE) Lab at Nemours. His research focuses on utilizing bioengineering to advance the care of critically-ill children with a specific interest in extracorporeal life support. He is most known for his work to develop a microfluidic oxygenator for use as an artificial placenta to support extremely preterm infants.
Prior to coming to Nemours, Dr. Blauvelt earned his MD degree through the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) program. He completed his pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and a pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
