Sailesh Kotecha, MD, FRCPCH, PhD
Professor Sailesh Kotecha’s group has focused on delineating the processes that lead to the development and resolution of pulmonary inflammation including the recruitment and removal of neutrophils. His group have conducted the AZTEC randomized control trial to assess if azithromycin decreases rates of CLD and are currently doing the BALLOON RCT to assess if enhancing trained immunity can decrease rates of lower respiratory tract infections in discharged preterm-born infants. His group are also linking these studies to longer-term outcomes using national cohorts including ALSPAC and MCS as well as their own cohorts of RANOPs and RHiNO to study the long-term cardio-respiratory outcomes including understanding why preterm born children develop cardiorespiratory disease and identifying optimal treatment via randomized controlled trials.
