This session enhances Emergency Department nursing competence by strengthening bedside practice, trauma/treatment room performance, and clinical decision-making. Emphasis is placed on applying evidence-based knowledge to support purposeful, patient-centered nursing care.
This session will provide education on dehydration relevant to the pediatric patients in the Emergency Department. At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, and the pathophysiology behind the concepts.
- Recognize pediatric signs and symptoms of each condition.
- Identify appropriate nursing assessments and interventions,
- Recognize possible complications and when to escalate care.
- Apply knowledge through case-based simulations.
