Join the Inpatient Rehab Unit’s discussion on transanal irrigation (TAI), a therapeutic approach designed to assist in the evacuation of feces from the bowel by introducing water into the rectum and colon via the anus. This procedure involves purpose-made device-assisted irrigation methods, several of which are commercially available. By regularly emptying the bowel using TAI, controlled bowel function can often be re-established, allowing users to develop a consistent bowel routine by choosing the time and place of evacuation.
