Certified Pediatric Nurse Review: Care of the Child with a Cardiac Disorder

This activity is designed to help nurses prepare for and pass the Certified Pediatric Nurse exam. The course content is aligned with the Certified Pediatric Nurse exam outline. 

Barbara Fasick, CRNP developed content which is presented by Janie Klug, CPNP, a Flow Supervisor in the Cardiac Center at Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware. This presentation includes discussion of fetal circulation, common cardiac defects and disorders along with the associated nursing interventions in caring for children with these conditions. 

Target Audience

Registered Nurses pursuing national certification in pediatric nursing.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity participants will be able to:

  • Identify normal structures in fetal circulation.
  • Differentiate between cyanotic, acyanotic and obstructive heart defects.
  • Discuss the plan care for a child with cyanotic, acyanotic and obstructive heart defects.
  • List the acquired cardiovascular disorders commonly seen in children.
