Material-Specific Objectives:

  • Understand the continuum of sedation and its progression along with its risks, including respiratory depression, airway obstruction, and cardiovascular instability
  • Perform a comprehensive pre-sedation assessment, wherein the patient's ASA classification, airway assessment, medical history, and active prescription/over-the-counter medications are taken into account
  • Learn to monitor and document accurately and appropriately respond to sedation-related emergencies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate sedation agents and their selection based on procedure type and patient needs
