Objectives
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss strategies for reducing the need for opioid medications during recovery from major surgery.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding patient readiness for a surgical procedure.
  • Summarize the key mechanisms responsible for local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST).
  • Describe the risk factors, presentation, and management of LAST.
