Objectives

Recognize subdural and epidural suppuration in children.
Request the correct imaging study to detect these conditions.
Identify pediatric patients with signs and symptoms of intracranial infections.
Describe microbiologic causes and surgical indications in patients with intracranial infections.

Practice Change

Order magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain with contrast when intracranial suppuration is suspected.
Choose appropriate imaging and antibiotics for patients with suspected suppurative intracranial infections.
