Dr. Karen S. Carvalho is board certified in Neurology with Special Qualification in Pediatric Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Carvalho is a graduate of Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo, Vitoria, Brazil. She completed residency training in Neurology and Pediatric Neurology at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2003 and a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at the same institution in 2004. Her board certifications include American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Special qualifications in Child Neurology), American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Clinical Neurophysiology) and American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Sleep Medicine). She has received many awards including being named “Top Doctor” by Philadelphia Magazine in 2018-2023, has written several books chapters and peer-reviewed articles in the field of pediatric neurology, pediatric epilepsy and sleep medicine. She has 20 years of experience in training medical students and residents. Her specialty interests include Hypersomnias, and Epilepsy and Sleep Disorders in Children with Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.
